DOS 513: Sectional Anatomy
Course description:
This course was broken down into 9 modules, each module covering a different area of the body. Each module had an ASRT lecture that went into great detail about the area of the body and its parts and functions. Some modules had supplemental lectures from the professor covering details of the area of the body and CT slices in that area.
Assessment:
Each module consisted of a video lecture and had a quiz accompanying it to test the knowledge gained. There were two subscription based sites used as additional tools for identifying the anatomy and conturing such as ProKnow and IMAIOS e-Anatomy. There were also practice problems for most of the modules that consisted of CT slices with labeling questions. An example of our practice problems can be found HERE.
Self Reflection:
At the end of each course, students are able to sit and reflect on the class and how it has affected their education and growth
The knowledge and skills I gained during this course were how to recognize and differentiate various organs, bones, vessels, muscles, and lymph nodes throughout the body on CT and MR images. I also had a refresher of the functions of all the areas of the body and their muscles and organs as well as the blood flow to and from the heart in each area of the body.
The new knowledge and skills will benefit me by being able to recognize and differentiate these organs, bones, vessels, muscles and lymph nodes on CT images in the dosimetry planning system so that I may accurately contour them.
I struggle with delineating the various vessels of the body and the lymph nodes.
I feel pretty good about the knowledge I have obtained in this course. That I can accurately contour the organs of the body in treatment planning. Knowing the importance of certain organs and how accurate you need to be in drawing your contours for those organs.
Other reflective thoughts... This course defiantly made me stop and think about what goes where in the body to be able to accurately label them on quizzes but I feel it made me stronger in my critical thinking skills by doing so.
