Dos 750: E-portfolio
Course Description:
E-portfolio was a class aimed at teaching students how to build a website to showcase our academic and professional achievements throughout our time in school. The course teaches students not just to show their accomplishments but explain why they are important them and to potential employers.
Course Assessment:
Course assessment came in a variety of ways. Mainly it was from weekly student discussions regarding the benefits of an E-portfolio, when they began, and how to properly create one. The creation of our Weebly site was another component of our assessment along with the peer-to-peer review we gave to other students with constructive criticism.
Course Discussions:
Our class was split into three groups and each week we had a discussion topic to respond to, with a question asked and dialogue followed.
Week 1 Discussion Post: What are the benefits of an E-portfolio?
Week 3 Discussion Post: What is the difference between "Stuff" and evidence based practice?
Self Reflection:
At the end of each course, students are able to sit and reflect on the class and how it has affected their education and growth.
The new knowledge and skill I gained during this course were the processes of building a website, something I never knew I could do. It helped to strengthen my technological skills regarding the website layout and the overall design of the website. Also I have learned the importance of having a well-rounded E-portfolio and what that can mean to future employers.
The new knowledge and skills will benefit me by being able to keep up with my E-portfolio as I grow in my career. Also It will hopefully catch the attention of a future employer.
I struggled with getting the layout and design the way I wanted it. I do not feel I am a very creative person so creating a design that is all my own was difficult. I also struggled with learning when to add certain things into the layout to make it look better or to have it flow more easily.
I feel pretty good about the start that I have on my E-portfolio. My peer-to-peer review partner was very helpful at giving me advice to help better my portfolio in areas I had missed.
Other reflective thoughts… I look forward to watching my E-portfolio grow as I grow and to be able to look back and see how I have progressed through the program.
