As I move forward in my career in dosimetry I want to be sure I remember why I am doing this. It's for my patients. I also want my work to reflect all of those dosimetrists who put forth their own effort in guiding me to be the best dosimetrist I can be, while in school and once out in the working world. Having the opportunity to learn from such a large facility such as UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health, has allowed me to see how dosimetrists come together as a community to achieve what is best for the patient, something I hope one day to be apart of. Below are some of my professional goals I would like to achieve:
- Pass the Medical Dosimetry Board Exam in August 2018.
- I would very much like to obtain a Medical Dosimetry job in the Central Florida area.
- Become a stronger dosimetrist when faced with difficult or rare plans.
- Create relationships among co-workers that allow me to feel comfortable to ask for help and guidance when needed or simply and second set of eyes for reassurance.
- Keep those relationships with past mentors or co-workers to have an multitude of people to seek advice and suggestions when needed.
- Learn to be creative with my 3D and IMRT planning. To think outside the box. Maybe a non-conventional approach could be the more effective plan used.
- I also would not mind working in a clinic where my radiation therapist and simulation tech skills are still challenged from time to time. Keeping those skills sharp will also help me to keep my planning skills sharp because I will not just think about planning from just the planning direction but how the plan and the clinical application pair together.
